Adventure Details: Blue Mosque Sultan Ahmet, Istanbul

Blue Mosque Sultan Ahmet, Istanbul

My Rate:

One of the most beautiful mosques in the world. Its grace and beautiful proportions were intended to reflect the splendor of Islam. The famous blue and green Iznik tiles on the walls are bathed in glorious light that is filtered through 260 windows. On summer evening there are light and sound shows in the grounds.

A must-see for visitors to Istanbul - I just wanted to sit and absorb the atmosphere and gaze in wonder at the tiles and stained glass.

Check opening times, as it is still used for worship.  Please respect it and wear clothing appropriate to such a place.  Ladies, a light headscarf will be appreciated.  You will be given a plastic bag to carry your shoes.

Note

Muslim festivals are timed according to the phases of the moon and change each year. During the lunar month of Ramadan that precedes Ramazan Bayrami, Muslims fast during the day and normal business patterns may be interrupted. Some restaurants are closed during the day and there may be restrictions on smoking and drinking. Generally, centres of tourism are unaffected. Some disruption may continue into Ramazan Bayrami itself. Ramazan Bayrami and Kurban Bayrami may last anything from three to 10 days, depending on the region. Transport and hotels are very busy during these holidays, so book in advance.
